Ingredients

  • 8 large jalapeños
  • 1 cup cream cheese or vegan cream cheese
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese or vegan cheese
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 sheet puff pastry thawed
  • 16 candy eyes or sliced olives for eyes
  • 1 egg or plant-based milk for vegan option

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Slice each jalapeño in half lengthwise and remove the seeds.
  • In a bowl, mix the cream cheese, shredded cheddar, garlic powder, and onion powder until smooth.
  • Fill each jalapeño half with the cheese mixture.
  • Cut the puff pastry into thin strips. Wrap each stuffed jalapeño with puff pastry, leaving a small gap for the “eyes.”
  • Place the wrapped jalapeños on the baking sheet. Brush the pastry with a beaten egg (or plant-based milk for a vegan option) to help it turn golden brown.
  • Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden.
  • Once out of the oven, place two candy eyes or olive slices on each jalapeño to complete the “mummy” look.

Notes

To make these poppers less spicy, you can substitute jalapeños with mini bell peppers. They will still look like adorable mummies but with less heat!
