Equipment
- Large pot
- Measuring cups
- Wooden spoon
- Strainer
- Mason jars or glass bottles
Ingredients
- 1 gallon apple cider
- 1 gallon apple juice
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- 1 vanilla bean optional
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 liter bottle of high-proof alcohol e.g., Everclear or Vodka
- Optional: whipped cream or apple slices for garnish
Instructions
- In a large pot, combine the apple cider, apple juice, cinnamon sticks, and both sugars. Bring to a low simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
- Once dissolved, remove from heat and let the mixture cool to room temperature.
- Once cool, add in the high-proof alcohol and stir well.
- Pour the mixture into mason jars or glass bottles, sealing tightly. For a more flavorful moonshine, allow it to sit for at least a week before serving. The longer it sits, the smoother it will become.
- Serve chilled or over ice, and garnish with whipped cream or apple slices if desired.
Notes
- The high-proof alcohol can be adjusted depending on your preferred strength. For a lighter version, use vodka instead of Everclear.
- You can make this moonshine in bulk, and it stores well for up to a year in a cool, dark place.
