Equipment
- Whisk or electric frother
- Bowl for mixing
- Saucepan (for hot version)
- Tall glass or mug
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon matcha green tea powder
- 1 cup milk dairy or plant-based
- 1/4 cup hot water not boiling
- 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup optional
- Ice for cold version
Instructions
- In a small bowl, sift the matcha powder to remove any clumps.
- Pour 1/4 cup of hot water over the matcha and whisk vigorously using a traditional bamboo whisk or an electric frother until the matcha is fully dissolved and frothy.
- In a separate saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until warm but not boiling (for hot latte). For a cold latte, skip this step.
- If you like your latte sweetened, add honey or maple syrup to the milk and stir until dissolved.
- For the hot version, pour the frothy matcha into a mug, followed by the warmed milk, and stir gently.
- For the cold version, fill a tall glass with ice, pour the prepared matcha over the ice, and then add the cold milk. Stir and enjoy!
- Optional: Top with additional frothed milk or a dusting of extra matcha for a beautiful finish.
Notes
- For a vegan version, use almond, soy, or oat milk.
- Adjust the sweetness based on your preference, or skip the sweetener altogether for a more traditional matcha experience.
- If you prefer a stronger matcha flavor, increase the matcha powder to 1 ½ teaspoons.
