Witch’s Finger Breadsticks

Witch’s Finger Breadsticks are a spooky and savory addition to any Halloween table. The breadsticks are twisted into the shape of witch’s fingers, with a slivered almond as the “fingernail” for an extra eerie effect. These breadsticks are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and perfect for dipping in marinara “blood” sauce.

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Mixing bowl
  • Knife
  • Pastry brush

Ingredients

  • 1 tube refrigerated pizza dough or homemade
  • 20 slivered almonds for fingernails
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 jar marinara sauce for dipping
  • Optional: red food coloring to tint the marinara

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Roll out the pizza dough and cut it into 20 thin strips.
  • Shape each strip into a finger-like shape, pinching one end to create a knobby “knuckle” and pressing a slivered almond into the other end for the “fingernail.”
  • Arrange the breadsticks on the baking sheet.
  • Brush each breadstick with olive oil and sprinkle with garlic powder and Italian seasoning.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Serve the breadsticks with warm marinara sauce. For extra spookiness, add a few drops of red food coloring to the sauce to create a “blood” dip.

Notes

You can use homemade pizza dough for a more rustic texture, and feel free to add sesame or poppy seeds for an extra crunch. If you don’t have almonds, you can substitute them with pumpkin seeds for a more natural look.
